Australia’s Star Entertainment Group has taken a significant step towards filling a leadership vacuum while taking a page from the playbook of rival Crown Resorts with the appointment of Jeannie Mok as Group Chief Operating Officer.
Mok joins after successful stint as Chief Transformation Officer of Crown, where Star said she designed and launched the company’s transformation strategy and oversaw the delivery of its culture, governance, technology and operations remediation programs. Crown won back its casino license for Crown Melbourne in March and for Crown Sydney in April on the back of its remediation efforts.
Star Chairman Anne Ward, who only recently replaced David Foster in the role after he was forced to step down during a second inquiry into its suitability to run The Star Sydney, said, “I am delighted to welcome Jeannie to the team as Group Chief Operating Officer. We are at a pivotal point in our company’s history and Jeannie’s appointment strengthens our Leadership Team as we focus on implementing the necessary reforms at The Star.
“Jeannie’s strong leadership skills and highly relevant experience within the industry will be significant assets to our ongoing program of change. We are focused on driving sustainable improvements at The Star and fostering a culture of positive transformation at all levels of the organization. We look forward to working with Jeannie across all operational aspects of this transformation.”
According to information provided by Star, Mok has previously held a number of senior positions within Lendlease Group, including Head of Operational Excellence for its Property business and Head of Legal & Business Operations for its Investment Management business. She has also served as a board director and company secretary of trustee entities which hold Australian Financial Services Licences.
